The La Biblia Reina Valera was first translated and published in 1569 by Casiodoro de Reina in Basel, Switzerland after twelve years of intensive work for the first Spanish Bible. The translation is based on the original Greek and Hebrew text and also included the deuterocanonical books of the Old Testament. This highly popular and widely used Spanish Bible had its first editorial revision in 1602 by Cipriano de Valera, who gave more than twenty years of his life to its revisions and improvements. Later revisions of the Reina Valera Bible in 1862, 1909, 1960, and 1995 began to omit the Apocrypha and substitute more modern language.

The original Spanish Bible was translated from Hebrew and Greek by Casiodoro de Reina in 1569. It was later revised by Cipriano de Valera in 1602. The last name of these two translators together is how this translation was named. Their incredible work in translating the Bible into Spanish from the original Biblical languages has changed the world for Spanish speaking people.
